Play on Penn

Play on Penn aims to create an attractive destination for community-building, and is an opportunity to demonstrate the future possibilities of the Penn Avenue corridor. Play on Penn is presented by the West Broadway Business and Area Coalition in conjunction with Penn Avenue Community Works, a collaboration between Hennepin County, the City of Minneapolis and Metro Transit, to support the Penn Avenue communities’ efforts to realize their vision for transportation access, economic opportunity and improved quality of life. Like Play on Penn on Facebook for updates!

August and September

In 2016, Play on Penn activity will include five Friday night MEAT & GREET events with food, music, and conversation at the new Freedom Square, a year-long performance plaza one block from Penn on Broadway and Logan, as well as creative exploration of three Penn corridor initiatives: 1) Triangle Park Orchards 2) a Queen Ave Bike Boulevard and 3) Housing and Home Ownership: informing the city’s Request for Proposals for property development along Penn.  A collection of West Broadway artists are creating hands-on activities that help inspire and collect input on these topics at the Meat & Greet events every Friday, at Open Streets West Broadway from Lyndale to Penn and from 11a-5p on Saturday, September 10th.

MEAT & GREET began as part of Play on Penn in 2014 to create late-night social space. Co-coordinated by Farrington Llewellyn & John Bueche, in 2016 MEAT & GREETs will happen Fridays, 7pm-11pm, August 5, 12, 19, 26 and September 2.
