The West Broadway Business & Area Coalition (WBC) Board of Directors
The WBC Board also serves as the Board of the West Broadway Business Improvement District (WBID). WBC Bylaws aim for at least 51% representation from area businesses or nonprofits. WBID Bylaws require 3/5 of the Board be representatives (owners or proxies) for WBID properties. Board members participate in an annual renewal process, and annual officer elections.

Watson Chiropractic, Anytime Fitness, Bios Environmental Services
Dr Tara Watson grew up in a community with opportunities similar to West Broadway, making the Northside feel most like home. She attended Seton Hall University majoring in Nursing receiving a BSN. Dr Watson went on to further her education, receiving a Doctorate of Chiropractic. She is currently in private practice as a Chiropractor specializing in auto injuries, sports injuries and work-related injuries. She owns and operates a home care agency to help disabled individuals maintain quality care in their homes, with family and their loved ones. Dr Watson also owns and operates an Anytime Fitness gym on West Broadway, bringing health, wellnes, and nutrition to help improve health disparities and support individuals along their journey healthier lifestyles. Bios Environmental Services provides services including contamination clean up, improving the lives of businesses and families, and providing safer, cleaner surroundings, buildings, and living spaces.

McDonalds, JADT Group
Justin Baylor is a McDonalds’s Owner Operator and managing partner of JADT Food Group, a Minneapolis based franchised management company. After spending a decade in real estate development with Toll Brothers of Maryland and Washington DC area, Justin relocated back to Minneapolis to pursue an opportunity to become a franchisee. With his passion for community and entrepreneurial opportunities, Justin feels the West Broadway Coalition aligns with his priorities as well as his commitment to contribute and be a part of economic achievements for the Northside. Justin is a member of Minnesota McDonald’s Operator Coop, National Black McDonald’s Operators Association and Lowry Hill Neighborhood Association. Justin has a BA in Business Management and Marketing from Delaware State University. In his spare time he enjoys working out, reading and spending time with his wife and two children.

Dean Rose has been a business and property owner along West Broadway Avenue for over 30 years. He enjoys working to better our community of North Minneapolis and strives to provide the necessary goods and services needed for a successful commercial corridor.

KB Brown Is the co-owner of Wolfpack Promotionals and founder of Alpha Wear Apparel MN. Born and raised in Minnesota (North and South), KB is a strong advocate for BIPOC businesses and the growth of businesses in North Minneapolis.
James Scott –
WBC Board Member 4 years
James Scott brings 27 years of theater experience to the Capri, including 14 years at the Guthrie Theater, 7 of those as the General Manager. During this time his responsibilities included researching, contracting and coordinating international theater productions brought to the Guthrie’s WorldStages program. As Director of the Capri, Scott’s responsibilities include supervising the Capri remodel and expansion, management of all productions, presentations and rentals, and development of arts programming for students and the community.
Scott is a graduate of the University of Connecticut MFA program in Theater Technical Direction has his BFA in Theater Design and Technology from Wright State University. He has held positions as Assistant Production Manager and General Manager for the Guthrie Theater; North American Production Manager for David Eden Productions, Ltd., Associate Professor of Technical Theater for State University of New York – New Paltz; Flight Director for ZFX, Inc., a complete service provider for all theatrical flying effects, Technical Director for North Shore Music Theater, and Assistant Technical Director for Goodspeed Opera House (now Goodspeed Musicals). Scott has previously served on the board of directors for PCYC and the East Downtown Council. He has volunteered with the Normandale Elementary French Immersion School Internship Fundraising Program and chaired the Valley View Middle School set construction team, among other volunteer activities.

West Broadway Farmers Market, NS Investment Group
J. DeVon Nolen is the Market Manager for the West Broadway Farmers Market in North Minneapolis. DeVon is a native to the North Minneapolis community she serves and has studied at Northwestern College, pursuing a degree in Psychology. She began her career through the TCF Banking Apprenticeship program at Patrick Henry High school. She has worked in tandem with community for over 25 years, holding various roles in non-profit work and banking including Pillsbury United Communities, helping to found Emerge Community Development, TCF Bank and First National Bank of the Lakes. DeVon founded the NS Investment Group a collaborative of local investors committed to authentic wealth creation in North Minneapolis and beyond. In her role as Market/Project Manager she provides capacity building technical assistance to vendors, coordinates programming, manages outreach, promotion and fundraising, and builds partnerships within the broader food justice movement.
Before joining the West Broadway Coalition, DeVon was Co-coordinator for the Northside Fresh Coalition, where she continues to lead on the Operations Team. Her previous nonprofit experience in Supportive and Transitional Housing has proven valuable in her current role as she served some of the hardest to serve families in the metro with multiple barriers including homelessness, chemical dependency and serious and persistent mental illness. A Graduate of the Urban Land Institute – Professional Real Estate Development course & board member and Treasurer of the West Broadway Business & Area Coalition. DeVon also serves on the Homegrown Minneapolis Food Policy Council, the Operations Team of the Northside Fresh Coalition, is a Union of Concerned Scientist Good Food Advocate and with the Council on Black Minnesotans of African Heritage Urban Agriculture efforts. She serves the Minneapolis Public Schools on the District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) and through the Minneapolis Alumni Connection (MAC). She also works with the Cultural Wellness Center- Culture, Family & Learning to host Circles in the City, a series of healing circles held around Minneapolis. Her service as a Fellow with the Environmental Justice Community Council (EJCC) deepens her work on Community Development.

Danyika Leonard joined the WBC board in Spring of 2020, and began serving as the board secretary in August 2020. Danyika is the Principal and Co-Founder of the Ujima Collective, which exists to create solutions and empower those seeking to address issues impacting the black community. Their work encompasses collaborative efforts of educators, organizers, artists, youth workers, activists, and teachers committed to doing community safety, equity, and racial justice work. She is also a policy director at Education Evolving, where she advocates for policies that clear barriers and create opportunities for educators to design student-centered learning experiences that equitably honor the unique assets, interests, identities, and aspirations of all students—and prepare them to thrive in the 21st century.
Danyika sees herself as a restorative practitioner by calling, and social worker by trade. Her work has focused on building innovative collaboratives of state, county, and local organizations for system and policy innovation for educational achievement and holistic family success. She has experience in community organizing, housing & workforce development, policy work, and youth and family empowerment, and design thinking. As an advanced results-based facilitator and Art of Hosting Practitioner, she is passionate about bringing people together to get things done. Danyika holds a Master of Public Affairs degree from the University of Minnesota Humphrey School of Public Affairs, and is a 2016 Roy Wilkins Community Policy Fellow. She lives in North Minneapolis with her husband and two children.

Jackie Cherryhomes is a longtime Northside resident. She is a former 5th Ward Council Member and President of the Minneapolis City Council. Cherryhomes has been a government relations consultant for 20 years, working with a wide variety of businesses, developers, and individuals doing business in the Twin Cities.
